To the point - Films & Books
European literature is incredibly rich and diverse. The emergence of cinematography gave it a chance of a second life – the most famous literary works could be adapted for the big screen. Cinematography and literature have been meeting and inspiring each other more and more over the last few decades. As 2018 has been selected the European Year of Cultural Heritage (EYCH), the „To the Point“ section of this year’s DEF, prepared together with the European Commission Representation in the Czech Republic, is dedicated to literature on the silver screen. The section therefore focuses on different forms of translating literature into the language of film. „To the Point“ brings you several new film adaptations, as well as some distinctive portraits of selected writers. The selection of the films shows us how to „write with film“.
- Mary Shelley / Ireland, USA, United Kingdom
- On Chesil Beach / United Kingdom
- The Kidnapping of Michel Houellebecq / France
